Caring for your memory bead jewelry
Every memory bead we make is coated in a medical grade, high quality resin. This resin is very pricey but well worth it. The resin coating protects your bead while appearing as a glass like shine. This coating is very durable, but it is only on the outside of the bead. If your bead has been drilled, most are, inside the hole is subject to deterioration if it comes in contact with water on a regular basis. Consider your memory bead "water resistant" not water proof. Avoid wearing them while swimming, doing dishes or showering.
The bad news is that all silver tarnishes especially good quality silver. The good news is, it can be polished with a silver polishing cloth and be back to new again with little effort. If you have a Large Hole European (Pandora) Style Beads, Sterling Memories Bracelet, Catena Bracelet and Necklace, and all Remembrance Necklace Pendants your jewelry is .925 Sterling Silver. Some of the silver we use comes from the manufacturer with a protective coating, if it does have a protective coating it will only last around 6 months under normal wear at best. Once the protective coating has worn off your silver will tarnish.
If your memory jewelry is a Heartfelt Memories or Captive Memories Necklace Pendant, a Chronicle Style or Young Girl Bracelet or Key Chain, Tie Clip, or Cuff-links your items are silver plated. Silver plating will wear down to expose the base metal underneath (usually copper). We offer these silver plated items for several reasons 1) to make memory jewelry at many price points so that everyone can afford to have something 2) the men's items are hard to find suitable findings in precious metals. Just try to limit the amount of time you wear your silver plated items and they should hold up for some time. You can always have the beads reset into a precious metal set at a later date if you want to.
The Men's Leather clasp is now guaranteed to be made of stainless steel. In the past our manufacturer substituted silver plated clasps without notifying us. The silver plating wore off in no time and left our customers unhappy. We do not like unhappy customers so we made the change to a better quality clasp. It costs us more but we will not raise the price for some time to come. Nothing special in the care of stainless steel, but the leather needs to be cared for as you would expect for any leather item.
The centerpieces and crucifix's are typically made of nickel. If they are of another material we will try to notify you. No special care is noted for nickel.
